Maker Space Grant Application

Rural Schools Maker Space Initiative

GRANT APPLICATION SUBMISSION
APPLICATION DEADLINE IS FRIDAY, MAY 29th!

To ensure as many school districts have an opportunity to access this opportunity, school districts are only permitted to submit one application per district. We encourage district leadership to collaborate internally to select the elementary school with the highest demonstrated need.

For any questions regarding the grant application or the Maker Space Initiative, please contact Scott Bischoping at sbischoping@rsany.org.

Program Vision & Impact

Briefly describe the current level of hands-on STEM resources [e.g., dedicated labs, robotics kits] available to your K–6 students.
Based on your local context, what are the primary barriers your students face in accessing high-quality STEM education?
How will the mobile Maker Cart be utilized within your school? Describe the rotation schedule to ensure maximum student reach (500–750 students annually).
Provide two examples of how Maker Cart components will be used to support academic outcomes in specific grade levels:

Professional Development & Multiplier Effect

Identify the 2–3 educators who will participate in the intensive Professional Development. Why were they selected?
How will these trained teachers mentor their colleagues to ensure maker pedagogy spreads across the district?

Commitment & Sustainability

How will you ensure that students will have meaningful access—including students with disabilities—to the Maker Space?
The Maker Cart includes 18,000+ pieces, supplies, and components. How does the district plan to manage inventory and fund the replenishment of consumable materials after the initial grant period?

Documentation Requirements

To be considered for a Maker Cart grant, districts must submit the following as part of their application:

  1. Letter of Support -- A signed letter from the Superintendent or Principal confirming support for the time commitment to teacher professional development.
  2. Implementation Timeline -- A simple one-page calendar example showing how the cart will move through the school during its first year.
